So after an attempt to set up the site using Joomla, which ended in dismal failure – I suspect due to issues with the hosting company, I have now set up a WordPress site, and done three items of food, which went fairly smoothly. More will follow on a regular basis.
I am open to suggestions of what to do next, but will tend to stick with the junkier end of the market…

2012 should be an interesting year with the highlights of the Diamond Jubilee, and the Olympics against the background of economic uncertainty.

Over the Christmas and New Year break I have eaten and drunk more than I probably should have, in keeping with best Christmas tradition.
The website is updated and I have learned a lot about Dreamweaver and set up a blog for our street.

The practice will be all ready for January so if your New Years resolutions include sorting our your teeth then just contact us…

As luck would have it a colleague of Rory’s wife , Jess, has gone to Malawi with her partner Olly to do dentistry in Blantyre and she wrote to me asking if we had anything to donate so a box was duly delivered to her parents house in Bradford-on-Avon.

To give an idea of the problems Malawi has a population of 10 million odd and there are less than two dozen dentists (1:500,000).  As a comparison the UK has a population of 44 million and around 20,000 dentists (1:2200). Much of the equipment is old and spare parts are hard to locate, and almost all of the materials and instruments would have to be imported and paid for in hard currency.

To my surprise a small envelope with a Malawi stamp on it turned up the other day with a delightful thank you from the staff at the clinic, followed by a thank you email and a video of the clinic. I am sure they won’t mind me posting it here.

It has been a long time since the Oral-B brand was on a toothpaste, although their parent company has a wide variety available under the Crest brand.

This one has been on the market in the US for 2-3 years and in Europe for one year. It offers something for everyone in that it has excellent anti-decay properties, reduces plaque levels, reduces sensitivity and erosion as well as reduced staining, tartar accumulation and halitosis. It contains an unusual form of fluoride, stannous fluoride and a polyphosphate and the combination of the two is responsible for the wide range of action.

It is available in mint and cinnamon flavours and we will have samples available to give away in a few weeks and it will be interesting to see what our patients think of it – I have been using the cinnamon for a few weeks and it is a bit different but seems to work OK, for me at least.
